Q&A With Mews Designer: Caroline Takvorian

Caroline Takvorian has been designing and working with The Mews on our wonderful French journey for some time now and we just love how her fashion forward, boho designs bring so much romance to our studio collection. With intricate embroidery, delicate laces and whimsical skirts we are confident you will fall in love with Caroline’s dresses too.

With an upcoming visit to our studio from Caroline herself, we couldn’t wait another day to speak to the designer and gain insight to her creative genius so we sent over some questions for her to answer to start off the fun!

Tell us a little about yourself and how you became a designer

I’ve always been inspired by Fashion and the French Haute Couture. My passion started at a young age and clearly materialised through my studies at Esmod Paris, the famous fashion school where I’ve learned the basics and found my style and identity which pushed me to become the designer I am today.

Did you always see yourself in the bridal industry?

Not at all, I’ve worked for Isabel Marant, Azzedine Alaia and Lolita Lempicka. I then launched my fashion brand, Caroline Takvorian, before embracing the bridal world. However, I felt I needed to create something unique within a niche industry where there was a real lack of Fashion footprint. In 2014, Caroline Takvorian Bridal House was born with the goal of creating effortlessly chic and elegant looks for the bride of today. I truly value the French know-how and the noble materials that we use in our Atelier in Lyon.

In an industry where nearly anything goes now, what sets your brand apart?

As mentioned, I truly value the craftsmanship and the beautiful and delicate fabric/material. All of my dresses are made from Calais Caudry lace and silk and this is definitely part of the brand’s DNA, alongside the signature fluidity of my dresses where women can feel empowered.

Where do you take your inspirations from when designing a new collection? Do you already have an idea/mood board or do you take yourself off on new experiences and draw inspirations from the world around you?

I am always thinking about my collections months in advance and I usually have a strong vision on what my next collection will be about; what story line and names all of my new creations will have. I think the campaign shooting usually is a reflection of my collection storytelling. This is very much the case for my latest launch with ‘On the Moon’ shot in Camargue in the South of France over the summer.

Do you have a favourite piece? – or is that like asking a Mother to choose her favourite child

It is very hard to choose as I love them all! However, I already sense that Gaia is one of the new collection favourites, and I’m not blaming anyone for it. It is a beautiful dress enhanced by a new beautiful 3D lace which gives a very modern allure, combined with a very flattering square neckline which will fit all body shapes.

What is your advice to the bride who has just started her dress search?

It is important not to rush into the choice, let yourself be guided by the professional stylist who will know how to best match your shape with your favourite style and they can suggest dresses you will feel yourself and most comfortable in. Also, let yourself be tempted by designs you wouldn’t have thought of at first glance, you might be surprised!
