Hidden Calmness: Saying “I do” in Manhattan

When people think of New York City, Manhattan is often the first place they picture. It’s home to big-name attractions, such as Central Park, the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the High Line, restaurants and the bright lights of Times Square and Broadway. It’s a fast paced city with charming hidden green spaces some that come with the stunning view of Manhattan skyline.

Hannah and Gareth said their ‘I dos’ at Midtown Loft and Terrace in Manhattan and yes it came with the stunning view of the skyline including the Empire State Building.

Hannah met Gareth when she joined a local basketball team in Bristol. Gareth at the time was Hannah’s coach and is still till to this day. Although it wasn’t ‘love at first sight’, the friendship turned into romance and now they’re happily married!

Hannah came across The Mews not long after moving to the Bristol area to work. After meeting Gail who at the time was in the process of moving The Mews to the current Clifton Village location, Hannah knew straight away it was the place to get her dress.

Like many brides Hannah searched the web for the perfect dress and fell in love with the talented French designers’ Rime Arodaky and Laure de Sagazan. After visiting both The Mews stores and with many options to choose from she set her heart on The Blush dress by Rime Arodaky with the stunning Pierce top to go over the dress. Hannah looks beautiful in her Blush dress, she oozes confidence with finesse and grace.

Not only does the dress cleverly reveal sensuous accents of Hannah’s silhouette by drawing your focus to her waist but with the plunging back neckline it once again delicately accentuates Hannah’s silhouette. The Pierce top adds to the edgy feel with low scoop back and the appliquéd with intricate macramé florals.

Rime Arodaky has a way of creating gorgeous dresses that are un traditional with a mix of feminity and rock n roll style, which perfectly suits a city wedding like Hannah and Gareth’s.

Overall Hannah and Gareth’s wedding in the modern, sleek, iconic city of Manhattan sounds and looks absolutely incredible and their pictures prove how breath taking the wedding was. In my eyes, it’s nuptial perfection.

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Hannah Till, I’m 32 years old. I moved to Bristol from Taunton almost 6 years ago. Most of my spare time is taken up with playing Basketball for Bristol Flyers.

How did you meet your Groom?

After moving to Bristol I decided to join a local Basketball team where my Husband was the Coach at the time. It wasn’t love at first sight, but very quickly that began to change and, with the help of a mutual friend, here we are! He’s still my Coach today.

How did you come across The Mews?

I actually first came across the Mews through work not long after moving to Bristol and met Gail as she was in the process of moving to the current location in Clifton Village. I was blown away by the dresses and Gail, and remember always thinking this is where I wanted to come when the moment came.

We got engaged in Paris and I couldn’t wait to start trying on dresses. I spent hours and hours trawling the internet for the ‘non-traditional’ wedding dress I knew I’d always wanted and came across the beautiful French designers Rime Arodaky and Laure de Sagazan. They were absolutely perfect and when I found that The Mews stocked them I knew it was meant to be.

I started off at The Mews Clifton and also took a trip to The Mews Notting Hill with my Mum and 2 Bridesmaids. I never even thought about going anywhere else, they had more than enough options for me!

What styles were you channeling whilst dress shopping?

I always wanted a simple/ boho dress that would just be comfortable on the day but had a bit of a twist. I fell in love with The Blush dress by Rime Arodaky and The Pierce top over it just added something a bit different.

Tell us about finding your perfect Wedding dress?

I went to The Mews with a few styles I knew I wanted to try but was also convinced to try on a very traditional dress. I was shocked how much I loved it but it just wasn’t right for the venue and wasn’t really ‘me’. The dress I eventually chose was one I had seen on the designers website but ruled out. I am so glad I tried it on as it felt beautiful. The best advice I could give is to not rule anything out.

Where did your wedding day take place? Was there any themes or inspiration behind your day?

We got married in Manhattan, New York at Midtown Loft and Terrace. As soon as we were engaged there weren’t really any other options. We both love the City and thought ‘why not?’

We wanted to find a venue where you knew you were right in the middle of Manhattan and Midtown Loft and Terrace fitted this perfectly with the Empire State Building looming over the Terrace where we got married.

We kept everything quite neutral and simple as the venue was so stunning and went for Black Tie which is very popular stateside.

What did he wear?

Gareth wore a bespoke Tux from Moss Bross with Velvet jacket and black bow tie. Not ideal for the 30+ degree heat but he looked very handsome indeed.

What was your favourite detail of the day?

I don’t think I could choose one favourite moment, the whole day was just perfect! We got married on the terrace followed by a cocktail hour with a live band who were incredible and also provided the solo Saxophonist who accompanied my entrance with Whitney Houstons Saving all my love for you.

We sat down for dinner in the loft space and had a New York Cheesecake Wedding Cake from a famous New York Bakery. This was followed by plenty of dancing and our giant Eiffel Tower Vodka Luge and Caricaturist provided much entertainment! We even managed to find a bar in Gramercy near our Hotel that stayed open for those of us that wanted to carry on the party as long as possible!

What advise would you give out to a bride to be about finding the perfect dress?

Follow your heart, choose the dress you want, that you feel comfortable and elegant in and that fits the venue whatever that may be.

Words of wedded wisdom?

My dress unfortunately swept up the whole of Manhattan from the first moment I stepped out of the hotel into the car. For a second I thought I might cry! The bottom of my dress is now very much stained with the city but it just brings back such amazing memories.

We knew there would be things that might not go exactly to plan on the day and once you accept that, you don’t even notice as you’re too busy having the best time of your lives.
