One of the things I love most that comes with writing about our brides is discovering the amazing places that are scattered across the world. Some places I never knew existed but now have the chance to experience and imagine myself being there. The raw beauty of the landscapes, the wandering spectacle of wildlife in faraway countries captures and creates memories that I am lucky to read about.
On a showery April day here in England, let your imagination run away with you and let it take you to a private ranch in Laikipia, Kenya where Daisy and Rogers wedding ceremony took place. A vast plain with breathtaking views surrounded by freely roaming giraffes and elephants.
Daisy’s Safari chic wedding is blissfully magical, a wedding that allows you to escape reality and plunges you into a welcoming warm climate. Daisy looked absolutely beautiful in her Ruiz dress by Laure De Sagazan. Laure has a way of creating dresses that are full of bohemian, flowing gowns with lace and embroidered elements. Which is suitably perfect for Daisy’s style she was channeling on her big day. The romantic flow of the Ruiz dress adds to the boho, vintage, organic natural palette that is a feast to the eye.
Daisy’s and Roger’s Wedding is awe-inspiring that is enhanced by the love that radiates through the photos.
Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Daisy Hurt. I live in Laikipia in Northern Kenya. I have a company called Umbrella Tree Africa, which is a directory of affordable places to stay around Kenya.
How did you meet your Groom?
I met my husband Roger when I was working at a safari lodge. Roger was born and lives in Kenya. He was on a road trip with his university friends and stopped via the lodge I was working at and I had to host them. We hit it off immediately and never looked back.
How did you come across The Mews?
I found pictures on pinterest of Laure De Sagazan’s dresses and got in touch with her, and she put me in touch with the Mews.
What styles were you channeling whilst dress shopping?
I wanted a bohemian vintage inspired dress that was loose, cool, not too stiff and formal. I wanted something flowing and natural and comfortable. The Ruiz dress was all that and more.
Tell us about finding your perfect Wedding dress?
It was the most un-stressful, painless part of my entire wedding! I found a photo of a Laure de Sagazan dress on pintrest, I got in touch with The Mews Notting Hill and Lauren and her team were AMAZING!! I tried on the entire Laure de Sagazan collection and decided on the Ruiz dress. It was the most comfortable blissful dress to wear. It was exactly the kind of thing I had in mind for my wedding dress. I was incredibly lucky to find the Mews. Thank you so much Lauren and team.
Where did your wedding day take place? Was there any themes or inspiration behind your day?
The wedding took place on Lolldaiga Ranch in Northern Kenya (where we live) We had 100 friends from overseas who came and stayed in a tented safari camp on the ranch for 4 days before the wedding and then on the actual wedding day we had 280 guests. The theme was safari chic. So men mostly came in linen suits and the girls wore floaty summer dresses (think Out of Africa).
We got married on a hill under an olive tree over looking an incredible African vista, with elephants and giraffe wondering in the back-ground. Guests sat on hay bales for the service and we had a big white tent in the middle of the bush with more flowers than you can imagine, grown at the local flower farms that usually export to UK florists and retailers, which they gave to us for practically nothing.
What did he wear?
Roger wore a beige Hackett linen suit and white linen shirt. He looked so handsome!
What was your favourite detail of the day?
I loved the beautiful makeshift aisle that I walked down, strewn with rose petals and all the flowers hanging in the trees with the incredible view. It was magical.
What advise would you give out to a bride to be about finding the perfect dress?
Start at The Mews and go from there! They are unbelievably helpful and the dresses are out of this world.
It really depends what kind of wedding you are having to what kind of dress you go for. Don’t get in too much of a state, you will find that dress. I found pintrest very helpful.
Words of wedded wisdom?
On the day the small things really don’t matter. Don’t spend a fortune on the wedding cake (mine collapsed in the heat and resembled the leaning tower of Pisa, it was hilarious.) Don’t stress about the little things and details, no one cares, they are all there to have a good time.
Just enjoy the day and remember to have 5 minutes out with your husband, looking at the wedding scene from afar drinking it all in.
Don’t get in a state about the weather, it doesn’t matter, everyone is going to have a great time whatever happens. It’s your wedding, everyone is there because they love you. Most of all ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
